Ownership of a patent

A patent is owned by one or more natural persons or legal entities. The patent may be sold or transferred. The general term for this is assignment.

Intellectual property rights may change owners. A patent or trademark may, for example, be sold. Other changes may also occur. A merger or change of name of a company, but also inheritance, results in an assignment of ownership of the right. In some cases, it is mandatory to record such assignments in the correct manner in the official registers.

Arnold + Siedsma can arrange the transfer of one or more patents or an entire patent portfolio at home and abroad.

The policy and structure of R&D activities can still be adapted before an invention is created. Legal advice can be given on the creation of your portfolio and the ownership structures of your innovations, but also on collaboration between parties working together on the innovation.
