Maintenance

In most counties, you will have to pay for the maintenance of the patent/patent application. This payment is referred to as the annual fee or maintenance fee.

In each case, you can make a commercial assessment of whether the benefits of protection justify the recurring costs. Arnold + Siedsma can arrange the payment of the annual fees in all of those countries on your behalf and can advise you in the decision regarding maintenance.

Maintenance fees are paid via our office in Zug.

Patent portfolio

It is worth ensuring that the patent portfolio remains sharply focused. The protection applied for must tie in with corporate strategy. Products or market conditions may change. Regular contact with your patent attorney will enable you to set up the patent portfolio in a cost-effective manner.

This may involve, for example, keeping a watch on the position(patent portfolio) of the competitor.

A carefully considered innovation strategy may, for example, reduce the annual costs of a patent portfolio, thereby releasing additional funds for research & development.
